DARS Newsletter September 2017
Dear Users, Welcome to this month’s DARS Newsletter, which has a focus on communicating with the helpdesk. Newsletters since May 2015 can be found at http://darswiki.bsp.ox.ac.uk/index.php/DARS_Newsletters. And remember that you can contact the DARS helpdesk via firstname.lastname@example.org. Unusually, this is being sent on the penultimate working day of the month, since most of us will be attending the Advancing Oxford conference tomorrow. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
In this issue:
DARS news and features
The dominant activity for members of the DARS Support Centre has been supporting the various DARS projects this month; key tasks have included the rollout of new security roles for all DARS users, work relating to the definition of consent requirements to be compliant with GDPR, and design of an interim solution for gathering consent; workshops relating to the forthcoming implementation of DARS Version 4, and preparation for the release of a number of Gift Administration project deliverables.
Circulation of DARS data
If you need to circulate data from DARS – for example, an attendee list for an event – please remember to use appropriate encryption, as required by DARS rules 7.2.5 and 7.2.9. The full set of DARS rules can be found at https://www.darscentral.ox.ac.uk/file/darsrules.pdf.
New User Requests
When requesting DARS access for new users – and also changed access – please use the most current version of the User Access Request Form, rather than a locally held copy of the form. From time to time the form changes – a few months ago, we started to request that you check if your new DARS user is on DARS or not: if they are, you need to include their DARS Lookup ID on the form, and if not, you need to create them a DARS record and include their DARS Lookup ID on the form. Therefore, please ALWAYS use the current version of the form, which can be found on the DARSCentral website at https://www.darscentral.ox.ac.uk/useraccess. Please do not just edit an old form.
